Guerrilla Marketing & The Internet

I found this interesting article when I found something to read. It is about marketing in social media without paying a single money from Burger King.

Burger King revisiting twitter post of any influencers in 2010. This situation makes these influencers curious why Burger King revisited their post from 9 years ago. The influencer reposted this tweet and made it viral. In the end, Burger King posted on its twitter and advertised fries.

After I read this article, I think that Burger King is brilliant! They trick these influencers to mention them and make it viral then they advertise their food. Burger King doesn’t lose any money but their technique is very effective. However, Burger King has to take time to scroll down the screen to find the tweet from 9 or 10 years ago. They have a lot of patience!

In the article, mention about ‘Guerrilla marketing’ which is a low-cost marketing strategy. I have seen this kind of advertisement but not on social media like in this case. If you want the influencer to talk about your brand, you have to pay or if you want people to see your ads online you still have to pay. However, Burger King techniques make the influencer talk about it by themselves.

Other guerrilla marketing that I have seen is mainly on the street which has lower cost than television and social media but it has a lower number of people who receive this marketing.

Easy and simple ballet classes advertisement

However, the lower number of people does not affect guerrilla marketing on the street anymore after we have internet and social media. If your ads interest them, they will post your ads online and it will go viral!

The internet makes our world smaller and bigger at the same time.

The other thing that makes Burger King technique successful is because they play with human curiosity. I think of this phrase when I see Burger King technique.

“Curiosity killed the cat”

Absurd and curious of humans is the best thing for advertisement.
